Erik You got me on that!
Some of the legacy code floating around can be so old it wouldn't actually surprise me. I know at least as of 10 years ago, COBOL programmers were in super high demand because of insurance and banking companies not having people to fill the shoes of their legacy developers. (Maybe they still are???) It wouldn't actually surprise me that some random gov't application was written in BASIC or even QBASIC and was somewhat mission critical.
